My morning opponent defended against my attack really nicely, and all I got out of it was a pawn. I was sure I was winning a piece. Then I had one of those lapses in concentration where I just walked into something stupid. Maybe I'll post the game when I get some time because it was interested.

The last game just sucked. I got smashed out of the opening and it went downhill from there. It lasted 24 moves and took less then two hours. Lately I've been having trouble when people play 1. d4 2. Nf3.

I'm in a match at my club and my opponent has played that against me in both games where I've been Black. I'm 0-2 in those games.Pollyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13747958243702670987noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5114234807276194338.post-17670218151038410282009-12-10T18:53:28.351-05:002009-12-10T18:53:28.351-05:00I meant 44...Re5.

That's basically what I did in a game last night, wasn't feeling that up for it, sticking around for another 40 moves or so, was a bit mentally tired from earlier in the day.LinuxGuyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15764940044950170053noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5114234807276194338.post-61861950516171767212009-12-10T18:46:33.709-05:002009-12-10T18:46:33.709-05:00Too funny.

I saw this because I am the opposite, my meltdowns come in quick games rather than slow ones.

In that game, now that I saw the whole thing. I thought your knights got clogged together once the other one went to c6 (recalling this from looking at it yesterday), but then he had a chance to keep his pawn pair together by pushing and instead traded off.

Basically, what I am saying is that I think you outplayed him in this game up until you made your ...Rd6 move, and then the game took on a frantic quality for both sides. You outplayed him overall, so you deserved the win, except for your clock (I have clock issues as well).LinuxGuyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15764940044950170053noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5114234807276194338.post-76174531174656354402009-12-10T12:57:23.542-05:002009-12-10T12:57:23.542-05:00Linux: The journalist gig is for the upcoming K-12...Linux: The journalist gig is for the upcoming K-12 championship in Dallas this weekend. I am on the way as I write. Airplane internet is cool!!

I'm not sure how heart felt my apology was, but just didn't feel like leaving board with a bad vibe. I've floundered around and lost several times when I was "winning." Dealing with that is one of my ACIS priorities.

I used to like having a move counter on my clock (I have a GameTime 2, and as far as I can tell the only way to do a two tiered time control on this clock is with the counter) but I've been considering getting a chronos so I can avoid the very issue you had come up. I just don't want to have to think about it during a game :PSteve Wollkindhttp://njord.org/~stevenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5114234807276194338.post-79613262494466360212009-12-10T04:19:56.364-05:002009-12-10T04:19:56.364-05:00When I first came to the board, it was move 44, an...When I first came to the board, it was move 44, and Nh5 looked like an obvious blitz move, eyeing Nf4. You still would have had the chance to play ...Rc7 on your next move, which covers your back-rank nicely. His Bc6 was a nice way to cut your rook off, I didn't see that either. Instead, you spent a lot of time ...Rd6.

His 50. Bd5 seemed crazy, as he can play Rf1 and then pick off the g-pawn.

During the game, even as you blitzed it, and he blitzed back, I thought 61. Kg2 looked most interesting, and now that I look at it more carefully g3 looks like a sanctuary spot for the king, for long enough. But by this point, you already have the pawns and a sturdy king.

It's fair to say that he messed up by playing into your time-pressure, but it's also fair to say that that is how he won the game.

"Calm down (lady)! It's only a game!" I think he did say 'lady'. In any case, he seemed to derive some pleasure from his blitz strategy working out for him (thinking to myself - as if chess were some arcade game. Oh, brother). You gave a heartfelt apology for flinging his piece. hehe.

They made a sensible choice in picking a journalist! I'm not sure what there was to write about, but "Many of the players were focused as if their lives depended on gaining prize-money" wouldn't haven been far from the truth. By the last day, I think most everyone had lightened up some.LinuxGuyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15764940044950170053noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5114234807276194338.post-46733439596539553752009-12-10T01:13:09.610-05:002009-12-10T01:13:09.610-05:00Hi Polly,

I can only imagine all the emotions you must have felt during the time scramble, especially after winning the piece but with not enough time left to think through the complications!
I was wondering, in your post-game analysis, if you looked at 65...Ng4? I know in the game that you would have been just about out of time at that point, but I think it hypothetically gives you good chances for a win, with your "hungry rooks" on the 7th... :)

Thanks for sharing your experiences, of both winning and losing, with your fans!

Best regards,
HankUnknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05304202835389735414noreply@blogger.com
