A Pause in My Nationals Coverage to ask a Stupid Question

Did Chess Publisher go to some sort of pay for use arrangement? I was looking at some really old posts, and where there used to be game generated by chess publisher they been replaced with this big box that says.

This Account Has Been Suspended
Please contact the billing/support department as soon as possible.

WTF is this? I've been using Chess Flash for over a year, but my original posts were done using Chess Publisher. In the unlikely event that someone goes back into the archives there will be no games. Grrrrr am I going to have to redo all my pgns in Chess Flash?

UPDATE:

It looks like I'm going to have to redo all those posts. I've updated two so far. It's a pain in the butt because I've moved to different computer and I can't seem to find the original games with the annotations. Though in some cases I may not have used annotations. I added some to the game that went missing in The Gorilla on My Back and TGIS. These are two oldies but goodies. Both games could be classified as Wacky Wednesday material. For my new readers who have looking at older stuff and wondering where the games are, here is a start.

This usually means that the owner of the website has either 1) stopped paying the hosting bill; 2) has exceeded their bandwidth usage for the month; or 3) their website has been hijacked and used for nefarious purposes.

More than likely it's case 2 and when their billing cycle finishes access will be returned to the site.

Thanks for the insights. Hopefully it's #2 so that I don't have to go back and change all those posts.

Hi Polly:

I saw the hand writting on the wall so to speak in August 2008 when I first tried my hand on chess blogging. My chess publisher diagrams would not load or error message "site not found".

What I did immediately in September 2008 was redo all my chess publisher games in Chess Flash. BTW I have never had a problem with Chess Flash, a great chess publishing site ,kudos to Glenn Wilson for his Chess Flash publishing site.

It may be time consuming but you may want to redo some of your old Chess Publisher games to Chess Flash. If Glenn Wilson started to charge a small fee for using Chess Flash , I would in a New York second , pay for Chess Flash.

Hi Diamondback: I've been using Chess Flash for quite awhile now. It's an awesome program. I already converted one game over. I'll probably start going back through old posts and replace the games with a chess flash version. It's not #1 on my priority list, though sometimes current posts link back to older ones. Those will get done first. I don't know if people actually go back and look at my old stuff or not.

My favourite chess game viewer can now be implemented into blogger templates. You should look into it here. I want to try out myself but that means i will have to switch from wordpress to blogger again because wordpress does not allow you to change anything in a template. Not for free anyway. And with all due respect to Chess Flash, Chess Viewer Deluxe beats all other chess viewers out there so far.

CMoB: That looks like a nice viewer, but after reading the instructions I was totally confused. I find Chess Flash easy to use since all I have to do after uploading my file, is copy and paste the code into my post.

Polly,

I have the same problem - I used Chess Publisher before Glenn created Chess Flash, so a bunch of my older games don't show anymore and those older posts look crippled now.... ugh, how annoying. If I ever find the time, I'll migrate them to Chess Flash.
