Leaving On a Jet Plane.....

...and I know when I'm coming back again. Greetings from JFK. I'm off to Bermuda this evening to play in the Bermuda International Open that starts tomorrow. This will be my first time playing in this 25 year old tournament. It's something I've wanted to do, and this year I finally got the chance to go.

I will be making posts during the tournament. Hopefully I will have some good games to share with you all. Pictures will also be included. This is my first time playing in a FIDE rated event. It is also USCF rated so it will be another place that I'm getting to play in a tournament. Since Bermuda is not a state, I can't count it towards my quest of all 50 states.

I've been told it's going to rain all weekend down there. Rain in Bermuda has got to be better then the crap we've been having in New York lately. Tonight there is a blitz tournament, but I won't make it down there in time. Unfortunately American Airlines daily flight to Bermuda doesn't leave until 5:15 pm.

Ciao! Stay tuned.....

Wow!

Wish I was going to Bermuda to play in a tournament!

And trips to Washington, Philadelphia, Dallas, Korea . . . Seems like you're living the life.

Play well! You want to get a nice FIDE rating so you can put it on your blog to give your dispatches from tournaments around the continent more authority.

I think you should add territories and neighboring countries to the list of states and count it. Not every player that has competed in every state (there are few of those) has also made it to several nearby islands, Canada, Mexico, and so on. Set your sites high.

Keep hope that the airline that got you there is still in business when the event is over.

Playing in a chess tournament in Bermuda - sounds like a dream. Good luck!

Canada, by the way, is the closest chess country, there are good tournaments here and other things to look at (if you got time).

ES: I did have help with my expenses for this trip. So I'm not the jet setter I appear to be.

James: You want to be a sponsor for that endeavor? LOL Fortunately American Airlines is in better shape then some of the others. Though I could think of worse places to get stuck.

Actually, you've accidentally played in a FIDE rated event before. The combined section of the Blackstone Chess Festival Open last August was FIDE rated. (Because I played one round as a house player in that section, I have a FIDE ID, but I doubt I'll ever have a published FIDE rating!)

Enjoy the rest of the tournament.
